Refinery Maribor is the oldest Slovenian
lubricants producer with 87 year tadition.
HISTORY
Established in 1922. Refinery Maribor develops and produces lubricants in cooperation with end-users and world-wide leading additives producers.
Year 1922
Company was established and named “Maribor refinery for mineral oil and chemical factory” - MARA. Beside petroleum, MARA was producing vaseline and petroleum based resins.
Year 1933
MARA was transformed to company for mineral oil production and trading under the name MOTOROIL. From trading company during the period between 1933 and 1935,
the company became the smallest Yugoslavian refinery. It had 40 employees and was producing 3kt, with introduction of continuous distillation process.
Year 1937
Production increased to 15t per day. Since then, the production was increasing and it reached 12kt in 1995, as a record year.
Year 1947
MOTOROIL was renamed to: Factory for
Crude Oil Distillation and Used Oil Regeneration
Year 1952
The factory worked as a part of JUGOPETROL,
later on PETROL Ljubljana
Year 1974
The company was transformed and named
“RAFINERY” MARIBOR as a part of Slovenian PETROL Ljubljana
Year 1985
Used oil regeneration was discontinued and more ecologically acceptable production processes were remained
Year 1990
Complete renovation of all blending facilities, packaging line and storage places.
Year 1991
Joint Venture between OMV and Petrol was established. Company was renamed to OMV - MAPETROL. The production reached its record at 12KT and there were arr. 50 employees
Year 1996
MAPETROL stopped cooperation with OMV and since then it has been doing business independently under the name MAPETROL. That year the company was ISO 9001 certified
Year 2008
The name of the refinery was changed to its present name - Refinery Maribor.
